Lt. Gen. Leslie Groves Jr. assigns physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer to the top-secret Manhattan Project during World War II. Years are spent by Oppenheimer and a group of scientists designing and building the atomic bomb. On July 16, 1945, they witness the first nuclear explosion, which irrevocably alters the path of history. Their efforts pay off.
